Deception

Deception

Debating with someone on social media these days feels sort of like this! (see video)Nobody is really listening and everyone just wants their point heard. The truth is, many will be deceived.

For example; (in summary, 1 Kings 22) In the OT there is a story about the King of Israel. His reputation was one of wickedness. He despised the word of the Lord and was evil. His time was up! Anyway him and another king, Jehoshaphat were going to go to war but Jehoshaphat said wait, let's ask the prophets and inquire if this is even a good idea and if we will be successful. So they inquire to 400 prophets and all these prophets say, "12 .. “Go up to Ramoth Gilead and prosper, for the Lord will deliver it into the king’s hand.” But Jeposphaphat is still unsure so he says is there any other prophet we can ask? And Ahab says yes, but I hate him he always prophesies disaster. So they call for the prophet Micaiah anyway, and of course he prophesies that the king Ahab would die. This is what the prophet explains; "Therefore look! The Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these prophets of yours, and the Lord has declared disaster against you.”

1 Kings 22:23

King Ahab rejected the truth, went to war and died.

A couple points:

  1. There are a lot of false teachers!
  2. When people reject the truth and continue to believe in lies, there’s nothing else that God can do but pronounce judgement.
  3. Ahab was given the truth but he chose to believe what he wanted.
  4. God judges them by sending another lie!

Notice that God sent the lying spirit? But God also revealed the truth? In the passage below we see God doing a similar thing;

2 Thessalonians 2:9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Is anyone else shocked by the current events we see today?

As king Abab was wicked we also see our country sliding into lawlessness. The spirit of the antichrist is always at work. God will not allow this to continue but He will judge those who despise his word and practice lawlessness.

What can we do? Pray that the Lord opens doors of opportunity for the advancing of the Gospel.

Seek the Lord and listen to his voice,

Pray for our country, pray for our leaders, pray for the Church to be bold with the truth!
