The Next Step

After last weeks mid term elections the republicans have taken over the senate. Acknowledging the fact that Americans have voted for different leadership, the Chinese government was quoted as saying this;

'Obama always utters "Yes, we can," which led to the high expectations people had for him. But he has done an insipid job, offering nearly nothing to his supporters. 'U.S. society has grown tired of his banality.'

So I looked up the word insipid and this is what I found; Laking flavor, "mugs of insipid coffee" tasteless, flavorless, bland, weak, wishy washy, lacking vigor or interest, unimaginative, uninspired, flat, uninteresting, lackluster, dull, drab, boring, dry, humdrum, monochrome, tedious, uneventful, run of the mill, commonplace, trite, tired stale, lame, wishy-washy, colorless, lifeless..etc.
Then I immediately thought of the word; LUKEWARM
But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth! Revelation 3:16
Did you know that this past election had the lowest turnout in 70 years? Yes only 36 percent of people showed up at the polls. In fact if you live in California there was a 25% decrease in the number of people showing up at the polls. I don't know about you but this surprises me because if people aren't happy about the way things are going you'd think that they would take every opportunity they could to change it. Then I thought of something. Are we as Christians becoming insipid? Are we just going through the motions of going to church but the message is no longer convicting because we've stopped applying the words of the gospel to our lives on a continual ongoing basis? And this insipid fruit is the result?
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.  For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. James 1:22-24
So there's a listening aspect and a doing part. If we don't let the gospel penetrate our hearts and minds then it won't produce fruit in our actions. So somewhere there is a disconnect.
Are we willing to make changes in our life so that we can move to newer heights with our Savior? What are we holding onto? The sins of addiction, pornography, materialism, un-forgiveness, greed, power, you decide. Maybe your mad at someone or maybe you can't get over your past. Maybe God has asked you to share the gospel with a neighbor but you just haven't done it. Maybe God has told you let go of something and you haven't. These seemingly small requests that are denied keep us just far enough from Christ and from being an effective example and minister of the gospel.
I think that if people really knew the power of God and the unrelenting love that he has for us, the other stuff would just look like garbage. Because that's what it really is.  His storehouse is full of blessings and riches that He wants to give us but we are rebellious, stubborn, and disobedient. For some absurd reason we think we know better, we think we know how to get our needs met. Oftentimes its our thoughts that get us into trouble. If we think that we can't do something, or that we keep failing, we just want to throw in the towel and so we doubt and we have thoughts of inadequacy, a lack of trust, and fear.   Focus on self will ultimately result in failure. God says "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6 I love this verse because I don't have to think about what he asks of me- I just have to trust and obey Him and there's peace in that. God wouldn't ask us to do something and then leave us stranded. He is with us to empower us, strengthen us, and to equip us. What could be better than knowing Him more? So what is God asking you to do today? He wants to help you and He knows exactly what you need to do so that you and He could walk together.  "Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?" Amos 3:3 He is Lord and He won't accept anything less than Yes Lord.
Be Encouraged.
