Spiritual Warfare

1. Many times our thoughts will dictate how we feel- if we get a lid on our thoughts- this will help us to control our feelings. Practice and start small like break it up in time slots that you practice. For example; you can practice from like noon till 4pm and keep doing this until it becomes a habit. Its not easy and the enemy will immediately try to discourage you! Then when you are assaulted by feelings of despair, anxiety, discouragement, fear... name what emotion it is and pray in the name of Jesus to rebuke the demon of fear or whatever it is. And keep praying until it goes away.

1 Peter 1:13 A Call to Holy Living
So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.

2 Corinthians 10:3-6 The Spiritual War
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

2.Limit your use of labels (post traumatic stress, narcissism....) Sometimes labels can do more harm than good! Some therapists refuse to use them. I say this because it puts you into a box and it can feel like your limited with what you can do. Jesus wants us to be free- he says;
John 8:31-32
“If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Abiding- means to obey- to dwell and go deeper. His word is truth and when we obey it-it makes us pure and sets us free. Satan wants to keep you in bondage- he wants to keep you from believing in the Word of God.

3. Pay attention to what agreements you have made about your self or your situation. For example; if I say to myself- "God just doesn't answer my prayers." We know that is a lie from the enemy and you would be really surprised at how many times we believe the lie. Watch what language you are using- for example; I will never.. it wont work.. that's impossible.. its the end of the world.. its unfair..catch yourself and change the language to; verses like; I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.. With God all things are possible..God will sustain me.. God is just. Just keeping repeating the good stuff in your mind.

4. Identify the problem and address it with scripture. For example this morning I was thinking about stuff that needs to be taken care of like my house closing escrow- getting my daughters transcripts- and all the things that I could do rather than praying about it! Then I saw this verse;

Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.--Philippians 4:6, NLT

5. This takes work and lots of practice! Remember the enemy will fight you but we can fight him back with the truth. Everyday just expect to be assaulted by the enemy but be ready! He goes for our mind- our thoughts- our will- our emotions. We need to keep them holy and sanctified by God's Word.
