Our perfect King

I went to see the film; Alice in Wonderland this past weekend with the family. I was a bit disappointed because it wasn't a musical. Otherwise, Johnny Depp was great in it and the queen made the movie more interesting. She had all her subjects cowering. At one point in the movie one of the characters asks her if its better to be loved or feared and she doesn't respond right away. Later on when her subjects begin to get out of control she affirms that indeed, it is better to be feared. If people fear her, then they will do what she says. I was thinking about our great king up in heaven and how he doesn't sit and ponder how he can manipulate us to love him more or fear him- he just is who he is. His love is so perfect that he sent his son to dwell with his creation in humility and die a death so horrific and brutal, so that we can live and have life with him. There is no greater love. This is how he shows his love, and he doesn't force us to love him or fear him- he just is who he is. His love, patience, justice, long suffering, kindness... are all the perfect amount and this is all reflected in the way that he rules the world.

Gods enduring love

I came across this today written from Oswald Chambers; "When we realize that Jesus Christ has served us to the end of our meanness, our selfishness, and sin, nothing that we meet with from others can exhaust our determination to serve men for His sake." This was a great reminder for me today as I am at my wits end in dealing with my children. I have one that snuck out the window, and another on her phone at three in the morning discussing her drunken exploits. This is heart wrenching for a mother who has continued to try to teach and instruct in the ways of Christ, but sometimes it seems, to no avail. I felt myself getting angry and having a feeling of distaste toward my daughters but then after reading this sentence I realized that Christ loved me at my most ugly point. He heard my cry and lifted me up out of the miry clay and set my feet upon a rock... and put a new song in my mouth- Praise Him for his forgiveness and long suffering toward me. Jesus- my cheese

Just read this great little book about change. This is how the author describes it; "cheese is a metaphor for what you want to have in life whether it is a good job, a loving relationship, money, a possession, health, or spiritual peace of mind. This is a story of four characters who live in a maze and look for the "cheese" to nourish them and make them happy." Spencer Johnson, M.D. Change is difficult because you never know what to expect and it takes some faith that God is going to provide the "cheese." In this book the characters find the cheese and its this huge stash, they like it so much that they move their homes closer to it. They invest their whole lives in this particular cheese.
